What bodyboarders get to see

This is what a bodyboarder would get to see at the lane. Maybe if the batteries lasted a little longer I might get a shot of something more interesting.. Note. The tail cam cannot be put at the very end of the board because it is underwater too much, need to place up the rail. That conflicts with my wildly flailing legs while paddling. Ah the difficulties..

What kind of Mullet do I have?

Help Yall!
I'm having trouble correctly classifying my new mullet :(

Is it a lesbian mullet?
Glam Rock mullet?
JewBro mullet?
Mollusk Hipster Mullet?
Agoraphobia Mullet?

I know it's not the Asian Mullet Adrian was hoping for, but I'm still pretty pleased with it.

Time to rock out 2008 in style! Happy New Year bros!

About to Get a Mullet!

Very excited - ever patient Ange has finally agreed to my requests for a mullet!!!!
I've been growing it out for a long time now, waiting for the right moment.

We skyped with the NYC Orphans' Office this morning, and I asked Adrian (age 6) what type of mullet I should go for.

He replied with confidence "Asian Mullet!"

Here's the before pic:

Hoping to look like this handsome gent after:

happy dutch new years

just experienced a dutch new years via skype.
Kitty's relatives in Nijmegen rang in the new year to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, followed by lots of kissing, new years donuts, and then big boxes of fireworks.
my kind of party!
nothing sexier than a pyromaniac woman with a big box of fireworks.

COW (Completely Out of the Water)

What the !#@!#*!&%@ is going on here? Doesn't anyone work anymore in California? What you do all day? Can you tell I live in NYC?

hold on, i take it all back...

Hold the phone, apparently I left the cocktail party a little too early. I've just witnessed photographic evidence of a rather debauched crowd lounging in what can only be described as their underwear. My photos make the affair look so civilized.... how could I be so wrong?
I need to find my speedo, Its around here somewhere.

14th annual cocktail party

Marc and Jessica played host to this years cocktail party. Its almost embarrassing saying you've been to 14 of anything. This thing used to be a noon to midnight affair, but our livers have collectively yelled uncle. Now its a more civil event of Hors d'Ĺ“uvres and well dressed women.
I hung out back cooking pork chops, getting smoke in my eyes, and learning all about the personalities I've been drinking with for all these years. I found out why they call Lisa "Motorcycle Lisa". Turns out Google knows more about her than I did. Try searching "motorcycle lisa san francisco".

This is my second year with this pork chop recipe and I feel I've perfected it. Its really just the same set of herbs that I've been working with for the last year, but the fire brings them to life.

4 pounds of thin cut bone-in porkchops (1/2 inch).
Throw the pork in a bowl with lots of salt, pepper, olive oil and a little vinegar.
Add a generous handful of chopped cilantro, and 4 chopped serrano peppers.
Mix well, cover, and let sit in the fridge until dinner time.
Cook over medium-high coals a couple minutes per side. Just until the meat is no longer pink. I wait for the blood to seep to the top.

the only living boy in new york

Adrian and I have made the pilgrimage to NYC for New Years. We are staying with Vasco and Kitty in their spacious thompkins square apartment.
Went out to sushi with the hipsters, Adrian was the only child we saw all evening. I don't know what got more stares, Kitty's belly or Adrian's smart-ass comments. Apparently everyone flees to the burbs before their children learn to speak.
Adrian says, "I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight because of all the crazy people in the park." I'm giving him another 15 minutes before he's fast asleep.

Water Wars

Welcome to yet another installment of Water Wars, in which we all post photos of liquid each day.
I decided to point the camera away from myself today and see what kind of results I got. The surf shots were pretty boring, but I got a couple cool empty wave shots while getting worked. With the wide angle lens, you have to be VERY close to a wave to get the shot, so most of these I took on the head.
And if you're thinking I have too much time on my hands... you're probably right.

Light/Water

Session number 2 with the GoPro camera - John B and I surfed south lot with a couple other friends. The whole "I have a camera mounted on the nose of my board to record every minute of my oh so important life" thing is inherently a wank... but at the same time, I'm totally hypnotized by the bizarre little combinations of light and liquid that come about. Most of them are unintentional, as the camera shoots every 2 seconds. There's something tremendously reassuring about the concept that there's all these little magic moments going by unnoticed while we surf. I like both sides of the equation -- that there's hidden moments of beauty in our lives, and we simply need to learn how to freeze them for a second longer than instinct allows, so that we can appreciate them, and also the concept that there IS some magic left in surfing, even if it's hard to see sometimes for us lifers, and therefore all the meaningless hours I've dedicated to this pursuit just might mean something after all.

Maybe they mean more than we know at the time - like the fact John B and I haven't surfed together in years (maybe since Oregon in 04?)and we'll probably hold on to a little of today's watery magic for a long time.

On the piano... John B.

My board got some mad barrels without me.

As I howled to the moon in frustration, offshore spray dropping rain

Then I dropped my wallet, larry layback style

The rest of these surf photos are weak, but the water droplets and sky combine for some new perspectives. (Yes, I popped the highlights and did a bit o' processing.)
