How you know the surf has been good for weeks on end: You've become semi-obsessed with documenting a flawless tail-mount, POV barrel shot, despite the fact that getting this angle seems as hard as photographing Bigfoot.
Unfortunately, barrels go by much quicker than we'd like, so when a camera is randomly popping off every two seconds, you often miss the money shot. Add the inherent, seemingly insurmountable spray factor, and you have a rare bird darting by at hummingbird speed. Case in point: today I shot 1,024 photos, pulled into maybe 20 legit barrels, only got about 4 non-spray varnished photos, and came away with a single gem:
Here's some other shots from the last few days, playing the same game. I tried the camera out in triple-overhead Ocean Beach with both the tail and nose mounts, riding a 7'4" and unfortunately learning that the wide angle pretty much takes away scale - you always look the same size, and the wave simply looks farther away instead of bigger.
